15 Free Must-Have Apps for Women

26 Sunday Jan 2014

Tags

15, Apps, books, bSafe, ConvertPad, deals offers, dictionary app, Dropbox, Fertility, fifteen, file-sharing, finance, first aid, Free, gift ideas, gifts, Google Maps, kindle, Maps, menstruation, mobile, music apps, must have, need, newspapers, Ovulation, periods, personal safety, shazam, shopping, Technology, The Piano Guys, there's an app for that, TopCashback, Transport, unit converter, vouchers, wikipedia, wishlist, women, WomenLog

So you know the story, you want some apps for your phone or tablet but can’t think of one that you want. Well I have 15 suggestions for you.

MH900440629

1. WomanLog Calendar

You’re a woman, you bleed every month. It’s handy to know exactly when mother nature plans to bestow this little inconvenient gift on you. WomanLog tells you. It’s really simple, you just download the app (it’s free!) and then when you get your period you input your start period date on it’s calendar and when your period ends you enter the end date. WomanLog will tell you when you should expect you’re period next month. Now all women are different but the good thing is the more you use WomanLog the better it gets. It gets used to the rythms of your body and is will soon be 100% accurate (it is for me)  in telling you when your period will start, how many days it will last and when it will end. It also has an ovulation and fertility forecast.

2. bSafe

This is an app to give you and the people who love you a little extra peace of mind. bSafe lets you :

• Set up your own social personal safety network of friends, family and coworkers
• Share locations to find each other more easily (optional)
• Ask friends to walk you home with Follow Me’s live GPS trace, or help friends stay safer by walking them home from wherever you are
• Use Timer Mode to program an automatic alarm that will trigger if you have not checked in in time
• Use I’m Here to tell selected people where you are right now
• Use Fake Call to make the phone ring when you want it to. You can even define who the call should be from
• And in case you are ever in trouble, the Guardian Alert button will immediately notify your friends and family members that you need help, and let them know where you are (GPS) and what’s happening (video). It will even set off a siren (optional)

3. Wikipedia

So you can nod along as if you know and then surreptitiously check you’re phone, the font of all knowledge.

4. Free English Dictionary

So you can check what ‘surreptitiously’ means and/or how it is spelled.

5. Bank balance app

If the bank you are with has an app, get it. There is nothing handier than quickly being able to check your bank balance. This is especially useful when you are in a shop and that dress that you probably shouldn’t buy is throwing itself at you.

6. Newspaper app

Pick a newspaper  that you trust and get it’s app. Then next time you are bored and about to check facebook on your phone, force yourself to read at least one news story first and keep up to date with what’s going on in the world before finding out what’s going on with Stacey from highschool who was in one class with you. She’s not going to let her heart rule her head anymore, aren’t you glad you know that?

7. First Aid by British Red Cross

Like I need to give a reason why this is a useful app to have.

8. Shazam

If you like music you probably already have this. Shazam is my favourite app, if you hear a song or tune that you like and want to know what it is you just open Shazam, tap your screen and it will listen to and identify the song. I use this all the time when I’m watching TV. Adverts and TV shows are always playing cool music that I want to add to my playlist. My most recent Shazam find is from a Thompson Holidays advert. Now I have the tune below on my youtube playlist and I have discovered The Piano Guys.

9. Maps

With Google Maps on your phone you will never be lost again and you will actually be able to find your way to that job interview. What is it with job interviews and getting lost anyway? Or is that just me?

10. TopCashback

If you shop then you should have this app. Here’s why :

 TopCashback Features:

  • – Search their list of retailers and view the cashback offers, discount codes and great deals you can get.
  • – Get online discounts with our codes
  • – Get access to in-store vouchers that can be used in highstreet stores and restaurants
  • – View the in-store vouchers on a map of your area (UK only)
  • – Take advantage of our Snap & Save offers and earn cashback on your in-store purchases such as groceries – a cashback site first!
  • – View all the latest online exclusive cashback offers
  • – View your full account earnings and recent transactions
  • – Access your Favourite Merchants list
  • – Update your main account details
  • -Send your Tell-a-Friend links so you can earn cashback when your friends join TopCashbac

11. Transport Apps

There are loads of free transport apps so if you quickly need to find out when the last train home is or you need a taxi number  there is an app for that, so download it. I have the National Rail Enquiries app because I get a lot of trains. Think about the transport you use and then go find a relevant app and never be stranded again.

12. ConvertPad Unit Converter

Want to know what £50.00 is in American dollars? Or what shoe size you have in Europe? Or how many inches are in a foot? This is the app for you. It is unbelievably useful.

13. Kindle

Books on your phone that you can read instead of making awkward eye contact on the subway plus lots of the books are free? Why don’t you have this yet?

14. Dropbox

Put simply, Dropbox lets you access everything everywhere. Never again will you say ‘you have to see this pic, oh wait it’s on my computer, I don’t have it on my phone.’

Dropbox is a free service that lets you bring all your photos, docs, and videos anywhere. After you install Dropbox on your computer, any file you save to your Dropbox will automatically save to all your computers, your Android device, and even the Dropbox website! With the Dropbox app, you can take everything that matters to you on the go.
15. Wishlist
You know when your birthday is coming up and people are asking what presents you want and you can’t think of anything? Well with wishlist you can archive all the cool things that you see throughout the year so that when your birthday does roll around you can just share your wishlist.
Wishlist lets you:
  • 1. Create a personal wishlist and capture the information of your wish including image, location, price and notes.
  • 2. View your wish in grid, in list or in details
  • 3. Sort your wish by name or by date
  • 4. Search your wish
  • 5. Show the location of your wish on Google Map
  • 6. Share your wish through various social network, such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and more.

I hope you have found this list useful. Do you have a favourite app? Leave a comment and tell us about it 🙂

Hey 🙂

So I was just torturing myself by browsing the ASOS website and looking at all the pretty things that I can’t afford right now when I stumbled across lingerie from Marie Meili.

Their stuff is gorgeous!

Now, I can be a bit of a cheap-skate, especially when it comes to lingerie since it’s not like you can go around showing it off. I usually try not to pay more than £10 for a bra (yes I really am that cheap)  but the Marie Meilli stuff is all so nice that I was adding loads of it to my saved ASOS items without looking at the prices. Luckily for my bank balance the prices are pretty reasonable if you are a normal person willing to spend more than £10 on a bra and justifiable if you are a scrimper like me. When I have some cash to spend on lingerie I will buy some from Marie Meili and review the quality, fit etc. but for now I can only show you how unbelievably pretty their stuff is. All the sets below are from ASOS and all the pieces can be purchased individually or as a set.

Here are just some of the sets that I loved:

Marie Meili Ambitious Set £28.00 from ASOS

Marie Meili Ambitious Set £28.00 from ASOS

Marie Meili Safira Set £37.00 from ASOS

Marie Meili Safira Set £37.00 from ASOS

Marie Meili Wilma Set £15.00 from ASOS

Marie Meili Wilma Set £15.00 from ASOS

Marie Meili Tanith Set £28.00 from ASOS

Marie Meili Tanith Set £28.00 from ASOS

The set below is my favourite  🙂

Marie Meili Varia Set £27.00 from ASOS

Marie Meili Varia Set £27.00 from ASOS

So anyway, I think these sets look really cool and I thought you might like to know about them. I just hope that I haven’t shot myself in the foot by telling everyone about them and then having them sell-out before I can buy some. I suppose if everyone likes them as much as me then ASOS and Marie Meili will be sure to go on working together so I shouldn’t really have anything to worry about.

Do any of you own Marie Meili lingerie? Would you recommend it? What is your favourite brand of lingerie?  Leave a comment  and let me know.

Inside the September Glossybox (The London Edition)

 Hey 🙂

Here is what I received inside my September Glossybox :

2013-09-14 11.47.04

2013-09-14 11.48.16

2013-09-14 11.49.322013-09-14 11.53.42

2013-09-14 11.54.29

I have tried the perfume, the blush and the false eyelashes. I really like the perfume and the blush, Untold  isn’t overpowering or barely there, it’s just the right amount of noticable. I would call it a heavy scent, I don’t know what scent to compare it to but it is not fruity and smells expensive. I think this will be my new perfume for work.

The Rimmel Stay blushed blusher is a great colour for me, it looks like a dark coral when it comes out of the tube but blends to a light barely there pink. I would go for this if you want your blush to look as natural as possible.

The eyelure lashes are great because you just peel them off and press them on, no glue required. For a false eyelash virgin like me though, they are a bit too big and dramatic, not really my style.

I’ve still to try the eyeliner and the Toni&Guy serum but I’ll update this post once I have tried them.

Glossybox Breakdown

Full size items

Eyelure Pre-glued lashes (£5.06)

Tony&Guy HairMeetwardrobe Classic Shine & Gloss Serum (£7.19)

Be A Bombshell Cosmetics Onyx Eye Line ($14)

Rimmel Stay Blushed Blusher (£4.49)

Sample size items

Elizabeth Arden Untold (5ml aprox £4.80) (50ml=£48.00)

Thanks for checking out my blog, I know it’s been a while since my last post. I got a new job and I’m moving house next week so I have been too busy to blog but I am now back to daily posts so stop by again tomorrow 🙂

Dower & Hall – For when it needs to be special

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to attend the Dower and Hall Press Day in Glasgow. I was absolutely thrilled to get an invitation, especially since most of the press invitations I get are for events in London which isn’t even in the country I live in. When I received this one and a) it was from Dower & Hall and b) it was in Glasgow, there was just no question about whether or not I would attend.

The Glasgow Dower & Hall store is tucked away on the first floor of the lovely Princes Square shopping centre. Princes Square is a gorgeous little shopping centre which is full of luxury stores. I normally only go there to wander around window shopping so this time it was actually quite nice to go in with some purpose and walk straight into a store.

2013-08-01 12.52.58

I was actually the first one to get there and this was my first time attending a press day so I was quite nervous and as at first it was only me and the store staff I felt a little awkward. That didn’t last long though as the Dower and Hall team were all really friendly and soon I was chatting away to Dan Dower.

2013-08-01 12.57.31

Now before I even tell you about  Dower & Hall jewellery or review the lovely piece that I was gifted, I will tell you the main reason why you should go there if you ever want something special. Dan. Dan is the reason. He is one of those rare and lucky people who love their job. And what does he love most about his job? Turning an idea from your imagination into a real, beautiful and one of a kind piece of jewellery. He showed me some images of  bespoke pieces that he had created and they were all really lovely. If you commision a bespoke piece he will really go above and beyond for you. He even goes so far as to cast the pieces in silver and then plate them in gold or whatever the client wants and set them with cubic zirconia instead of diamonds just so you can wear the piece and say ‘yes I want it like this’ or ‘please change this and make it x’ so you always know that the finished piece will be exactly as you imgained it. Dan showed me some beautiful images of the pieces he has created in the past but unfortunately I don’t have them to show you.

I can however show you one of the members of Kasabian wearing a  feather pendant that they commisioned from Dan and also Judi Dench wearing Dower and Hall pearls in the latest James Bond film Skyfall:

Celebrities seen recently in Dower & Hall_Kasabian _

Judi Dench

To be totally honest, Dower & Hall is a bit out of my price range, my budget only allows costume jewellery at the moment but now that I have met Dan and seen his passion for what he does and heard him describe how he really wants to create exactly what clients want and imagine, I am sure that I will be seeking him out for the one piece of jewellery that I will want to be unique, my wedding band (not that this is on the cards at the moment) So, if any of you would like to have your own unique piece of jewellery created, you know who I would recommend.

Here are a few of my favourite pieces that are on sale at Dower & Hall at the moment :

Beauty Box Bonanza! Glossybox, Miss Glossybox and Birchbox

Bargain, Beauty, beauty box, Beauty Boxes, birchbox, budget, different beauty, Fashion, glossybox, july, make up, Miss Glossybox, Mystery Boxes, Nails, self indulgence, shopping, subscriptions, summer

Hey 🙂

So I recently started a new job and guess where my first pay check went? Well a lot of it was eaten up by beauty box subscriptions. I have wanted to try so many beauty boxes for so long that I went a little OTT and ordered 3 different beauty boxes in one night. Of course, I rationalised that I could blog about them, so they are for research purposes too, not purely self-indulgence. Well that’s my story and I am sticking too it.

The boxes I ordered were all July versions, I got GlossyBox, BirchBox and Miss Glossybox ( this box is aimed at younger teens and is only £7 plus P+P while the other 2 boxes are £10 plus p+p) so at least one of my boxes was for research purposes as I have yet to see any Miss Glossybox reviews so I thought I would post one 🙂

But first, here are all three boxes together in their arrival condition:

Inside these you will find:

Stop by the blog tomorrow for a full review of the July Miss Glossybox, here is a sneak peak before you go :

Does anyone else think that…?

advertising, adverts, Bad design, Banks, Bizarre, books, Changin room, Design, false, false advertising, Harry Potter, harry potter books, hot coals, Humour, J.K Rowling, James, Lily, limits, Lupin, make up, Marauder's Map, mona lisa, Peter, Quidditch, Rant, shopping, Snape, Spending

… J.K Rowling should write another hogwarts series about James, Sirius, Peter, Lupin,Lilly and Snape? I love the Harry Potter books but I seriously think this series would be even better than Harry Potter, I mean the Marauders created the Marauders Map and became animagi in Hogwarts, and James did this in addition to being a seeker and acquiring an invisibility cloak. Also, who doesn’t want to read about Snape’s unrequited love for Lilly? I feel like these books not being written is like bread not being invented, the Mona Lisa not smiling or the internet not existing. These books just need to BE. Yes I am a total geek but there is no way I can be the only one who would walk over hot coals to read those books. We should start some kind of campaign to beg J.K Rowling to write them.

the marauders

… designers who design products that don’t work or make life more difficult should be allowed to use only those products for the rest of their lives? Hello, I designed this sink so small with a tap so big that now I have years of spraining my wrists every time I wash my hands. Bad designs would be a thing of the past.

collage

…  all changing room limits should just be a standard 10 items? I was shopping yesterday and trying a lot of things on and in some shops I was only allowed 4 things in the changing room at a time and in others it was unlimited. Maybe this doesn’t annoy you as much as it does me but when I go shopping I like to do it all in one go, hitting all the shops and trying a lot of things on. This means that when I leave half of my items with the changing room attendant I can’t even remember what items they were when I come out. Plus it’s such a hassle to put your own clothes on again just to walk to the front of the changing room and swap over your items. The changing room Bingo should just be abolished, every shop should agree to let you have 10 items in and then you would always know how many items you can bring in with you.

… adverts for things not available in your country should not be played in your country? This happens quite often in Scotland, an advert for some offer will come on TV and just when you are thinking that’s a good offer, I should take advantage of that the small white words of woe appear at the bottom of your screen stating ‘available in England only’. That is just sadistic if you ask me.

…make up adverts should show a woman with no make up on having the make up being advertised applied, and finish with the end result? Then we would know which brands have products that work and which companies have photo-shop and airbrush artists that work.

… when you buy something with your debit card your bank balance should be updated instantly? Why is this not the norm? Well it’s not the norm in Scotland, my australian boyfriend tells me that it is the norm in Australia which makes the situation doubly frustrating for him with his accounts. Seriously banks, sort it out. Luckily, I know how much I spent shopping yesterday because my online bank account sure doesn’t. If it were to be believed, on my shopping trip yesterday I was using my magic bank card that makes everything free. You have two options banks, sort it out or send me a real magic bank card that makes everything free.

MH900448337

Anyway, those are some of my thoughts about things that I think would improve life. What do you think? Do you agree/disagree? What things, no matter how trivial or epically life-changing, would improve life for you? Please comment and let me know 🙂

Thanks for checking out my blog 🙂

The Minimum Wage Dress

20 Thursday Jun 2013

Posted by masquerade21 in Fashion, News, Shopping

Tags

18s, age groups, ageism, £3.68, Bargain, Beauty, Bizarre, black, budget, cheap, clothing, cut out, cut-out dress, dress, dresses, earnings, elastane, employment, Fashion, Figa, Figa Store, Frugal, green white, Inspiration, knot detail, Minimum wage, minimum wage dress, minimum wages, new look, occasions, Online shopping, pink, polyester, profit margins, salary, Sale, saving, saving up, She Likes, shelikes.com, shopping, style, summer, under, under 18, Under £10, under £5, women, work, working hours

Sometimes when you work you think of prices in terms of hours, for example ‘those shoes will cost me 5 hours pay’. I recommend this style of thinking if you need to look after your pennies because when you think of the hard work you have done to earn your money when you are considering a purchase it really curbs your spending.

Well in most cases it does, but if you happen to shop at Shelikes.com thinking in terms of ‘price vs. hours’ probably won’t put you off your purchase.

That’s because they have just introduced ‘ The Minimum Wage Dress.’

This dress costs just £3.68 ($5.68) (€4.30) (Prices converted on 20th June 2013) In the U.K £3.68 is the minimum wage for under 18s so for minimum earning 16 and 17 year olds this dress costs one hour’s pay. The dress is supplied to shelikes.com by Figa Store.

It comes in 4 colours as shown below:

The dress is described by www.shelikes.com as :

The Minimum Wage Dress – Only £3.68! A dress worth keeping! This spectacular cut out dress is the perfect choice for all your summer occasions. Featuring a cut out design & knot detail. Versatile & easy to wear, team with colour popping heels for the evening, or wear with hi top trainers & a customary denim jacket for the day.

Approx Length – 28.5″ (72.5cm)

95% Polyester 5% Elastane

Machine Washable

So what are you’re thoughts on all this? Do you think it is a wonderful idea? Do you wonder about the profit made on this dress? Would you like to know how the company can sell it so cheap? Do you think more companies should be selling items like this? What do you think about the dress itself? Do you like the style? The colours? Should they broaden the range of Minimum Wage Dresses available?

Also what are your thoughts on different age groups having different minimum wages? Personally I think it is very unfair, if you do a job I think you should be paid as much as the other people who do the same job, age should not be a factor. Do you agree/disagree? I would love to get your comments about this.

Thanks for checking out my blog, if you liked this post then please hit the ‘like’ button. If you would like to share your thoughts then please comment, I love reading what you have to say 🙂
