So I logged on to Facebook Today and the first thing I see is a revealing pic of Miley Cyrus- Whatever. I don’t care about that. It’s the comment of the magazine posting the image that I care about.
The image was shared by Flavourmag and this is what they had to say about it:
Does this bother anyone else? I don’t care about them sharing the pics. They could write about and publish Miley Cyrus pics until the cows come home for all I care.
What bothers me is the fact that Flavourmag dare to judge someone for being who they are making her. They are calling her a media whore and yet they are pimping her out. Why give her the attention when they think she is an attention seeker? I can’t be the only one who thinks that this is blatant hypocrisy.
But wait, it gets better.
I checked Flavourmag’s page on Facebook to see the other updates that they have posted recently and I found this one from the 23rd January 2014.
Why the hell is the comment about Rhianna ‘Can Rhianna get any sexier?’ While the comment about Miley is ‘The media whore, centre of attention comment seeking singer has laid it all bare…’ What a shameless double standard. I’m not even going to get into who’s showing what or wearing less because it doesn’t matter. What matters is why the media praise the actions of one woman while condemning the same actions of another. The magazine is sending out mixed messages ( and I’m sure it’s not the only magazine/newspaper/etc. doing this) in a world where women already have so many mixed messages. Be equal and sexually empowered BUT don’t be a slut. Express yourself BUT don’t dress like that and most prevalent of all – wearing next to nothing in public is unacceptable – UNLESS you’re famous (except you Miley, for some reason it’s still unacceptable for you.)
Thanks for checking out my blog. I would really like to know your thoughts on this, what mixed messages are you being sent?
