Sad news folks 😦

ASOS warehouse caught fire last night. Fortunately no one was hurt but they have, understandably, taken asos.com down until they can assess the damage.

When you visit the website you will be greeted by the following message:

ASOS Fire

ASOS is my favourite online store because they have great products and they provide great service to their customers. I hope the company recovers from this tragedy soon.

Why it is Dangerous to accept Gifts in Scotland

Bizarre, cautionary tale, gift contracts, gifts, Glasgow, gold diggers, Homer Simpson, Law, Ned Flanders, odd, presumption against gift, Rinsers, Scottish law, STV, the dangerous of receiving gifts, the dangers of rinsing, unusual, you can be sued for accepting a gift

MH900446460

So yesterday I came across this article from STV about a wealthy man suing an ex-girlfriend for the cost of a designer handbag and a designer pair of shoes. Basically the man said the arrangement was a loan and he expected to be paid back and the woman claimed that they were a gift (although she had signed an agreement to pay the man back) Make what you will of the article but the article itself is not actually what interests me.

From reading the article I gathered that in Scottish law it is up to the recipient of a gift to prove that what they have received was in fact a gift, in other words if someone gives you a gift and then later claims it was a loan and takes you to court to sue you, unless you have proof that it was a gift you will have to pay them back. I have looked into this and it’s true, in Scot’s law there is a presumption against gifts.

I am the only one who thinks this is a bit unfair? Also, it’s not really the type of information that you are likely to know without looking it up.

So do we now need gift contracts? Have you ever made anyone sign a statement agreeing that a gift they have given you is a gift…I’ve never seen that happen at a birthday party.

You should be wary of getting into relationships with gift givers. If you’re new boyfriend or girlfriend treats you to a romantic weekend in Paris you may have to them pay them back for it.

I guess there is a silver lining, people who get ‘rinsed’ can now get their stuff back when they realise what has happened and people who loan each other money or items  and then don’t get their stuff back can sue eachother. Imagine how much stuff Ned Flanders could claim from Homer if they were real and lived in Scotland?

So what if your neighbour gives you their old lawn mower because they have bought a new one? Or someone treats you to a weekend away? or a wealthy relative pays your school fees? Or your parents buy you a car?

My advice would be to not accept anything that you can’t afford to pay back because at some point down the line you may well end up having to pay for it. Either refuse or at least have a pen and paper handy next time you are lucky or unlucky enough to be given a gift. I might make sure any future benefactors (not that I expect to have any) are recorded on video stating that they are giving me X,Y,Z as a gift.

Gone are the days of no take-backsies.

Thanks for checking out my blog 🙂 I would love to know your thoughts on this so please comment x

Amazon unveils plans to deliver products in 30 minutes by DRONE!

Seriously.

Amazon has been carrying-out secret testing for drones that will deliver packages. CEO Jeff Bezos hopes that the drones, known as ‘Octopters‘ will be operational in 4 or 5 years.

The service is called Prime Air and it is hoped that the Octopters will reduce delivery time to 30 minutes. The machines will be able to carry items which weigh up to 5 pounds which covers more than 3/4 of Amazon stock.

Apparently the biggest obstacle to making this futuristic concept a reality is approval from the US Federal Aviation Authority. It’s my guess that the service would be launched in the US before anywhere else.

So would you sign up for  Prime Air? What do you think about this? Leave a comment.

Is this a hoax? I couldn’t find any evidence that this is just a publicity stunt or a joke. The news has been reported by credible news sources such as the BBC so I am leaning towards believing that this is just one of those cool leaps into the future that once it is rolled out we won’t believe we ever lived without it, like mobile telephones. Fingers crossed.

Today on  the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women it has been announced that a scheme which allows people to find out  if their Partner has a history of domestic violence will be rolled out accross England and Wales.

The Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme has been piloted in Greater Manchester, Wiltshire, Nottinghamshire and Gwent for over a year. It is known as Clare’s Law in tribute to Claire Wood who was murdered by an ex-boyfriend with  a history of violence against women.  The aim of the scheme is to prevent tragedies such as Clare’s by giving people the right to apply to Police Forces for information about their Partners in relation to domestic violence.

The Pilot so far has generated 111 Disclosures. It is yet to be confirmed whether a similar law will be implemented in Scotland.

What are your thoughts on Clare’s Law? Comment Below.

The Minimum Wage Dress

20 Thursday Jun 2013

Sometimes when you work you think of prices in terms of hours, for example ‘those shoes will cost me 5 hours pay’. I recommend this style of thinking if you need to look after your pennies because when you think of the hard work you have done to earn your money when you are considering a purchase it really curbs your spending.

Well in most cases it does, but if you happen to shop at Shelikes.com thinking in terms of ‘price vs. hours’ probably won’t put you off your purchase.

That’s because they have just introduced ‘ The Minimum Wage Dress.’

This dress costs just £3.68 ($5.68) (€4.30) (Prices converted on 20th June 2013) In the U.K £3.68 is the minimum wage for under 18s so for minimum earning 16 and 17 year olds this dress costs one hour’s pay. The dress is supplied to shelikes.com by Figa Store.

It comes in 4 colours as shown below:

The dress is described by www.shelikes.com as :

The Minimum Wage Dress – Only £3.68! A dress worth keeping! This spectacular cut out dress is the perfect choice for all your summer occasions. Featuring a cut out design & knot detail. Versatile & easy to wear, team with colour popping heels for the evening, or wear with hi top trainers & a customary denim jacket for the day.

Approx Length – 28.5″ (72.5cm)

95% Polyester 5% Elastane

Machine Washable

So what are you’re thoughts on all this? Do you think it is a wonderful idea? Do you wonder about the profit made on this dress? Would you like to know how the company can sell it so cheap? Do you think more companies should be selling items like this? What do you think about the dress itself? Do you like the style? The colours? Should they broaden the range of Minimum Wage Dresses available?

Also what are your thoughts on different age groups having different minimum wages? Personally I think it is very unfair, if you do a job I think you should be paid as much as the other people who do the same job, age should not be a factor. Do you agree/disagree? I would love to get your comments about this.

Both of these products are on sale now at www.boots.com, the balm is £6.99 and the shield is £12.99.

If you would like more information then you could check out the Forever Ink website at : http://www.tattooguardian.com/

Note : This was an independant post. I was not in collaboration with and I do not have any ties to either Forever Ink or Boots. I simply discovered these products and thought that some of you might be interested in finding out about them.
